Looking at these examples it is logical that there are many different forms of vertical transportation, since a crane has a different layout than an elevator. Different type of vertical transport systems
The first type is the elevator. An elevator can have different objects, which can vary from carrying persons, small goods but also large objects. The quality of the elevator also depends on its object. Sometimes the elevator needs to be able to carry a high amount of weight. An elevator for persons can most of the time be found in buildings to transport persons between different floors. The weight capacity of this kind of elevator can be between five hundred kilos till five thousand kilos. An elevator for small goods can be found in fancy houses, restaurants or stores. In this case, small goods such as food or shoes are transported in the elevator. In this case the weight capacity is most of the time hundred kilos. However, when you need to move cars the elevator needs a different maximum weight capacity. Although the weight capacity and object of the elevator can differ, the principle of these types of vertical transport systems is the same. The top of the elevator is attached to a cable, this cable runs to the hight point in the elevator shaft. This cable can move up and down and this also makes the elevator goes up and down. - Gantry crane
- Bridge crane
- Tower crane
- Arm crane
Maybe the names look unfamiliar, but you probably have seen most of these cranes near construction sites. The first type of crane has one or more horizontal bars where a trolley is situated. This trolley can pick up heavy goods and can move them to a different position along the horizontal bars. This crane has vertical legs where the horizontal bars are placed. This crane comes in different sizes. Another example a vertical transport system is the bridge crane. This works similar as the gantry crane. However, this type of crane does not have two vertical pillars.
When to use vertical transport systems?
There are many situations when you need to use these systems. However, all situations have something in common: somethings need to be carried in vertical direction. This can be very light, such as a pair of shoes. However, it is also possible that you need to move a thousand kilos. Since there are many different goods that need to be moved in vertical direction, there are also many types of vertical transport systems.There are many companies that built, rent, or sell these kinds vertical transport systems.
